The 7th and 8th graders were taught about basic computer hardware. This assignment included notes, however some students are not the best note takers. Therefore, all of the PowerPoint slides used during my presentations of information were placed on this website. Students could then go home and review the slides as notes. Also, students were given handouts with all of the vocabulary becuase not all students have access to the internet at home.
As teachers we must know that all of our students do not learn by simply listening to verbal lessons. I went to the Avalon Campus and borrowed their used and or broken desktops. After being taught about the various parts inside of the destops, they were allowed to open them. Next, students were to begin taking apart those desktops based upon my direction. The tactile learners loved this part of the lesson.
Within a classroom there are many different modalities and learning levels. When necessary, I created a co-operative learning environment. The higher level students were used to assist their classmates that found the material difficult. Students were strategically placed in groups with varying levels of learning ability. The higher level learners were used to assist their classmates.
Objective: students will be able to locate and describe at least five pieces of hardware inside of a desktop case, from memory with 80% accuracy.
Evaluation: The lessons went well. Students were very curious as to the inner workings of a desktop. Students did go home and view the slides resulting in good test scores. Being that computers are apart of our everday lives, our students will use this knowledge.
