Invitation project
Assesment, planning for instruction, content knowledge
When asked "Do you know how to use all of the features of Microsoft Word" my 7th/8th grade students replied "Yes." Knowing that most of them were attempting to keep up with the "I know everything image", i needed a way to break this barrier to learning.
I decided to have students re-create document (shown below) using Microsoft Word. Students originally could not, cuasing the students to ask for help. This method of interest creation was also used as an method of inquiry. I was able to find out what my students knew while peaking their interest in my lesson.
In order to increase the meaning of the assingment to the students, I allowed students to create an invitation to any event they wanted in which they chose. Completed student projects ranged from birthday party inviations to Superbowl party invites.
Evaluation: The skills learned in this project will be applied to future applications that the students will be taught. Those being Excel, PowerPoint, and future related software . Students are now extremely comfortable with Microsoft Word. I would not change any aspect of this lesson. These skills will be used during their High School years during their technology courses and general education classes.
